Removeable front bumper winch?
I was looking for some pictures of Jeep's that were running a front bumper set up with a receiver hitch for a removeable winch. Seemed like a great idea to be able to move the winch from the front of the vehicle to the rear, or maybe need it in the back of a truck sometime. With the quick connect plugs would make it easy. I was looking at doing something and was hoping for some pictures of idea's.

Mines a 2500lb mobile winch that I use for my trailer/logs/obstructions and as a tension base for my COME-ALONGQuote:

The winch ALONE, would not be big/strong enough for a vehicle recovery, but can be used as stated above JIMBO

When using a winch to recover your own rig you typically aren't in a good place. Having to lug a winch around and get the mount inserted into the receiver while wading through waist deep mud/water or climbing over ankle/knee breaking rocks isn't my idea of fun. What do you do when the receiver is blocked in such a way that prevents you from getting the winch mount inserted?
What do you do with the winch when you aren't using it? If you leave it mounted in either the front or rear receivers you are really screwing with your approach/departure angles any will frequently be bashing the winch into rocks. The winch and mount is going to be a really heavy and bulky item that will have to be secured well to prevent it from becoming a head crushing object if you store in it the rig when not in use. A receiver mounted winch sounded like a good idea when I first started going off-road but when I started looking at the big picture I decided it wasn't for me.

Good, stick one ($600) bucks on your front bumper ($400) bucks wire it/switch it/ fuse it/ ruin it the first mud water game/put stronger taller springs in front/extended bumpstops and I'm sure you'll loveit![]() JIMBO

I got a really good deal on a Warn 9.5ti with the portable mount, the winch has never been used. I also got a great deal for the Warn jumper cables and quick connection for the rear of the vehicle off e-Bay. The winch will always stay on the front of the Jeep with a locking receiver pin unless needed elsewhere. I also own a GMC dually, thought it would be nice if I ever needed to winch something from the back of the truck it would be nice, just have to get another quick connect for the GMC truck. I only paid $150 for the quick connect, with solenoid, switch and #2 cables.
I'm going to make my own front bumper mount, I was just looking for a few idea's of what other people might have done. Thanks |

I made this from a 6" channel my neighbour gave me, I wanted it to be easy to take the bumper off when I put the snow plow on. I used the other half to make the rear bumper, it faces inside out like the one on a j8 and I made the bolt on clevis mounts and bolted a pintle hook on it. Now I just need to get my Milemarker hydraulic 70 series winch and build an offroad trailer.
My rear bumper looks a lot like this one. YouTube - Jeep J8 Interview |

I posted this topic a while back and forgot about it. I finished the bumper and thought I would post a few pic's.
