First off, If this is placed in the wrong section I apologize. I have searched and searched again and i cannot seem to find a decent bumper. I am looking at one to tow my motorcycle from time to time. The bike is 414 lbs wet. The trailer is probably going to be 4x6 (ideal but probably gonna find a 4x8). I have seen some nice bumpers for towing. I am looking at the Red Rock 4x4 full width HD rock crawler (324$) out of stock at extremeterrain. There are other bumpers out there that have the hitch but some reviews say that the hitch is not welded correctly so it wont be ideal for towing. like only welded on the one bar and not the other. My second bumper pic is Olympic 4x4 Boa Xtreme Rear Bumper. I am not big on picking a bumper up for trail riding it seems like all the trails around here are secret and or all the way by Philly. I could get the hitch for 80$ but why do that when you can improve the look?
Anyone have any experience with towing on their aftermarket bumper that would help? Thanks in advance
I'm not familiar with those, but bumper hitches are generally not as strong as a real receiver hitch, and almost always have a lower weight limit. (bumpers are usually class1, the OEM receiver is class2)
Most bumpers don't even offer a hitch option, but many will still work with the standard OEM style hitch. I have Fab Fours bumpers, and the rear is built with a notch for the OEM hitch (though I don't have one on there). So you can improve your looks and still use the $80 hitch...
First of, Nice L/P i used to live in the springs 3 years ago. I am jealous. However, didn't yall just have a blizzard?
Some olympic bumpers say class 2 hitch. I could just get a bumper with the cut in it for the OEM. I believe the red rock comes with a OEM hitch and a bracket to "sandwich" it in the middle. So it is attached to the bumper and bolted underneath. Some bumpers just have the weld.
this is common in every state. Some are just known by the local clubs, not in books or maps... best option and i would recommend joining a local Jeep club. main reason many trails end up on the "need to know", is keeps them from getting trashed. Since the clubs tend be the only ones that do clean ups on known trails. Difficultly is the next reason. Today people seem to have this concept that they should be able to make it up any trail no matter what it takes or make one around the area they cant do. this has lead to people removing rocks, adding rocks to a degree that changes the trail from its known difficulty, cutting trees and about anything. They could just winch it but pride kicks in and then they have to change the trail to fit their skill or equipment. So to get on these trails like this you need to Join or be a Guest of the local clubs. Plus wheeling alone is asking for FUBAR. Every year we have to rescue people that went it alone and then had to walk out and leave the heep behind, or they get hurt and are FUBAR and or die out there. It happens more these days than it used too. Mostly ATVs though. But things happen fast even going slow. Going fast just makes the odds worse<atvS. Out here about every week there is a serious ATV injury and a few deaths every year. Very few jeepers.
Yeah, I literally just picked up the Jeep last Tuesday. I am still looking for the groups around here. I joined one its a freshly created group beginning of march.
