Pet harness

Those of you with pets (dogs) do you use a harness for your dog or just let them roam in the Jeep. My beagle is a pain in the *** and I do not want him to jump or fall out of the Jeep. Im looking for a harness and reviews on the better one to get.

That looks a bit over kill. it is a beagle not a pit bull. I just need a safe simple harness. I have seen a few but would like to get the opinion of others first.

we bought a brand called easy rider from petsmart. you just buckle the seat belt though it. they were inexpensive and give me a peace of mind that they cant just jump out.

We got the this kind lead from Hunter K9 Gear:

Pet Auto Safety Restraint Strap - 6 colors too!

I like it bcause you can latch it into the seatbelt buckle receiver itself.
Attach it to any harness you have.

No harness for me. Took out the back seat and he roams freely. Use Safari Straps to keep him in with the top down. Any sort of harness would seem rough on him. He is well trained enough to sit still and strong enough to not get hurt when we are bouncing around.

I usually just read, this is my first reply, but-
For a harness, first decide if you need one. If your dog is calm and doesn't have a collar that he can easily slip out of maybe you just need the collar. If he's a little rowdier then consider a harness. I always use one that have the ring for the leash in the front, on their chest. Some people are concerned that when the tie down is really needed (you run into something, get rear ended, etc) that the anchor point on their chest will flip the dog over, possibly leading to further injury. Those people say you should get a harness that has the ring on the back, towards the dog's tail, that way the dog in theory stays on his feet after landing again. What ever type of harness you use, just make sure it's fitted right, even "escape proof" harnesses are easy for a determined dog to get out of if it's just a little loose.
As far as where to tie them down to- I have a carabiner clipped to the bracket holding the female ends of the rear seat belts. From that I have a cheap leash that's long enough to not quit reach the sides of the tub. Gives the dogs enough room to move around the back and hang their heads out the side. I usually have the back seat out, but if it's in there I just pull the leash up with the seat belts.

I have two large dogs that are in the jeep every day. One sleeps in the front seat and the other always rides in the back, sometimes clipped in, sometimes not, depends on the ride. For a smaller dog like a beagle I'd be worried about him sliding and getting hurt my the seat mounts or something if he's not attached. Any dogs that aren't mine definitely get clipped in.

Which harness: the easy walk by Premier is a great harness in general, and Premier has a pretty awesome replacement policy for damage, including chewing.

That was long. I'm a nerd for dogs...

I have a conventional harness attached to a chain on the roll cage. Enough room to let her roam, but enough restraint to provide safety in a sudden stop or possible accident.

Don't attach to a collar, you don't want all that stress on the dog's neck.

I run on of these whenever my trail dog is in the Jeep with me. It clips into the seat belt receiver and is short enough that he can stick his nose out but he won't fall out even in an accident. I worry more on road than I do off road, more chance of an accident, off road he gets out on any obstacle that could cause a flop/roll.

A loose dog is bad both for the dog and the owner in an accident, securing the dog by a collar is just plain bad for the dog if anything happens.
