Indeed.... and when it's your time, it's your time.... Obviously, THIS was not his time... It's definately an opportunity to really start appreciating the time that is left...

All the more reason that someone in the group should carry a chainsaw when wheeling (or driving) in the woods - you never know what might happen that will warrant the use of the saw.

I see that one of you group members was saw packin' !!

I am amazed at how foolish we have all become about the risks we take when we operate our vehicles. Talk of sueing the manufactures? Calling it a defect in the Jeep. More calling it a “low level of protection” and a weak spot. Suggesting that Jeep needs to be aware to reinforce this spot? Are you crazy?

For my, obviously out of fashion 2 cents, from the evidence I see that DirtyJeep didn’t do a thing wrong. He has a Jeep that seems to be properly setup for the trails he was running. He had at least some recovery gear. He wasn’t running alone. He wasn’t running old broken down dangerous junk. From the bark peeling and wood transfer I think speeds were reasonable for the conditions. From the part of the trail I can see no spotter or scouting was required, and may have added danger for the person outside of the vehicle. Before anyone even suggests it, I see no beer cans or evidence of any stupidity on that scale.

As far as offset goes, I’ll take the “my first post” the troll bait. Would you say the same if a small diameter “beaver pole” type of stick had been fed though and speared him to the seat? Where I offroad they are just as common as the hunk of a tree that we see here. Should I be very afraid of my stock offset?

DirtyJeep I commend you for not complaining about what happened to you. I further respect you for avoiding blaming others for your misfortune. Looks like you are healing. I’m glad a person of your character wasn’t seriously hurt or killed while doing something you enjoy. It is a shame that some here seem to want to take a shot at you, directly or indirectly.

A smaller tree would be a lot less likely to generate enough force to go through the fenderwall, and would be much more likely to snap. It's also got a lot smaller of a hole it has to find before it can even get to the fenderwall. The fact is, having too much gap there can actually help direct trees and other debris into the fenderwall if they happen to end up pointing in that direction.

WOW!!! glad to see that you are recovering well. To me, this looks like the best excuse for a lift kit. Looking at the pics, if it had hit any lower, it could have deflected down. Hard to tell, but none the less, a good "excuse" for a lift kit

Here's hoping for a speedy recovery; for your health and trail riding

So what, you joined this forum just to attack someone because of an accident? Why don't you get out of here and do something more productive.

WOW.

That is freaking amazing. First, that it happened at all. Second that you came out of it alive. I have a bad feeling in my stomach just looking at those bruises though... taking a shot to the nads is always painful, but that must have made you feel like you were really going to die.

Glad to hear you are doing better though!

People also said that small caliber bullets were less likely to generate enough energy to defeat body armor. Apples to oranges maybe, but it is a density, speed, angle, and coeficient of friction kinda thing. Given the right conditions, anything is possible.

Glad to see that you're ok man. Get back in the saddle when you can, but don't rush things. I'll keep this in mind while I am out testing fate on the trails.
