Ode to a fallen warrior

So I will post some pics in a day or so, but my TJ caught on fire today and the engine burnt up and through my firewall. I feel like someone removed a part of my body.... Sad to see a trusty friend go. I am not sure I can buy another Jeep for some time as I need a truck in the near future for moving and general work. Looking at a 4x4 manual frontier, but am wanting to stay american. My wallet is twisting my arm for the cheaper Nissan that is a generally more capable mid size. I just have to say I was crushed to see my friend go...

Sorry about the bad news. Hope you weren't inside when it caught fire. What happened?

Sorry about the Jeep, have any idea how the fire started?

I suspect a leaking fuel line managed to mingle with my y-pipe. I was in it and so was my girlfriend, just not for long once I saw smoke and flame. Prior to the fire the vehicle started runnning real rough and it smelled rich, but I think now I was smelling raw fuel.

If you want to stay American get a dodge ram older than 01, or a Ford SuperDuty 3/4 ton, at least then you still get solid axles, and will make a decent wheeling rig, better than the crappy IFS that everything else has now.

I seem to recall there being some fuss about dodge auto trannies? I would like a stick, but how are they over the long haul?

somehow i think i need to edit the first pic as it looks like it got mirrored instead of rotated, you may notice that the driver side is somehow the passenger...

That sucks. My sisters xj did that the one time I took her wheeling with me and my buddies. I have no idea how it started..saw smoke puring through the vents so I yelled to her get out! I poppped the hood and the vaccume canister and some ac lines were on fire? We tried using water, didn't work...so i grabbed a shovel and started throwing sand and dirt on the motor and beat the crap out of the area that was on fire. Luckily i was able to snuff it out and get the xj home.
Caught fire once again and always ran like crap afterward so now its in the scrapyard.
I will be investing in a fire extiguiser now.

Not interested in swapping a crate motor inh there? You could probably save that jeep for under $4000 no?

dunno, the whole firewall is melted out and so is the console, I will probably do a cj or yj down the road when I get more money. For now I am going to look for a truck so I can cart a Jeep or a suzuki samurai around in the future.

not sure whether or not I want to do a cj up in the future as a street/show vehicle, a YJ for serious beating, or a samurai/tracker. Pretty sure I am not going to get another TJ. I want to do something carbed next for a new challenge. Oh well, leave for the navy tomorrow and have a very long training block, so I will get time to think about it.

^^^sounds like a good idea. 60s/70s j trucks are hard to find, but every once in a while you can find one in good shape. or a FSJ cherokee or wagoneer...im kinda partial to the cherokees though.
