That is in the service manual to do that. It was also in the manual to rebuild the motor while in the vehicle.

If there wasn't stuff that sucked, how would we know what was cool? Beavis and Butthead

Ha, what a great find. Wonder if anyone can still dig up the old FSM? I remember reading in an old Jeep history book about the weird quirks and fixes they engineered into Willy's.

I was about to say "WITH A HAMMER?!" but when I saw the flop I laughed for a second until I realized it wasnt staged... then I thought.. Wow. That's badass!

However I do not belive that sitting on a tilting gas can is covered in the FSM

And here I thought it couldn't get any easier to work on my jeep.
