New YJ owner!! Help with serious mods!
Hey fellow Geepers! So i just bought my 'new' 91 yj the other day! sorry i don't have any pics of it yet, but it's bone stock. so i'm thinking about doing some serious mods to her and have a few ideas, let me know what you think...
1st off i want some serious offroad power, so i would like to run 37" tires. i don't have any money for a lift, so i was thinking about just stacking two 3" body lifts together to make a total of 6 inches of lift. Im sure that with 6 inches of body lift my springs will have plenty of room to FLEX. Also i want some nice looking rims, so what about these DUB rims.. ![]() But how do you guys keep rocks and stuff from scratching your rims? I hear ARB axle lockers are really good, so maybe i could save up for that and put it in my rear axle. i heard that i have a dana 35 and that they are super strong too. secondly for power i think i could get like 30 horses from putting a cold air intake on. for weight reduction i could take off the roll bars and those metal plates on the bottom of the car. Also, i was short on cash so i couldn't buy a newer Geep, is there any way i can make my YJ look more like a newer TJ? like replace the dashboard and headlights? thanks for all your help guys, i'll cya on the trails!

First and foremost you need to fill out your profile so we can see exactly what you have.
Second dana 35 will never stand up to 37" tires. They just handle 35" with upgrades. Third a cold air kit for a yj will not add 30 horsepower it might add 5 if you are lucky.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() just listen to it, common sense would tell you that six inches of plastic body lift on any car is a recipe for failure. and the dana 35 is bashed on this forum so much it's not even funny, lonejeeper is right in saying that it's a fairly weak axle.

1. becasue thats the most absurd idea i've ever heard of stacking 2 3" body lifts together,
2. I garauntee you bought the wrong vehicle if you do'nt have any money 3. there's no possible way this ISN'T a joke not to mention you couldn't have said 1 more wrong thing, everything you said completely contradicts everything this forum is on.

Stacking (2) 3" body lifts together is a HUGE no no!!! Even (1) 3" body lift is pushing it, most people use between 1" & 2" if they even use a body lift at all. To run 37's you could do a 4.5" suspension lift, with a 1/2" shackle & a 1" body lift, but if you want to run 37's you might as well just go with an SOA (spring over axle) setup. A dana 35 will have trouble with 37" tires, you'd want to re-gear both axles or just swap out with dana 44's. A cold air intake will not get you 30 extra hp, you'll get 10 if you're lucky. As for looking like a TJ, you could swap the front end (grille, fenders, hood) but it does take some work. The dashboard swap would be another issue, not sure if it can be done. Use the search feature to find answers to your questions, as there is alot of info on this forum. Welcome to the forum and congrats on the Jeep
In all seriousness, I hope you're pulling our leg with this one ![]() |
