Need a pitman arm puller

I cant find one with a wide enough opening for our jeeps for a reasonable price.

I basically need a 10 dollar cheapo one time use one. Not one of the nice like 70 dollar ones.

Some autopart stores rent them out. Don't know if they will work 100%, but when it is free its worth looking into. I have rented tools from autozone a couple times, broke one and still got my deposit back.

How about this one? I used the on linked below, plus a torch, freeze spray, PB Blaster and then had to cut it to get mine to move what a pita for a Jeep with no rust.

I've rented one from autozone. Maybe napa or jerrys has a similar service

I got one at autozone for like 10-20 dollars. They had a 90 dollar one but I just picked up the cheap one next to it. I busted the first one. I took it back and they replaced it no questions asked. With the second one I used it in conjunction with a BFH and it popped right off. The one I bought looked just like the HF one in the link above.

I am fairly certin that HF one is too small

I have one that looks exactly like that, and it will not fit.

Around here (NC) Advance Auto has used ones in a kit, they sell it to you and when your done the next day/week, you return it and get all your money back. Basically a rental. They had a nice kit when I did mine - $90. Just look inside it before you get it to make sure all the parts are in it. If you want to keep it...that's ok too.

Ya and run the risk of bending the shaft. Might be okay if he is replacing the gear box. But they invented the puller for a reason.

To the OP. When you get a puller. you will need to install the puller after you remove the nut. Put some pressure on it and while there is pressure on the pullerpulling down on the arm take a hammer and hit the arm that is around the shaft. a few decent whacks and the pitman arm should pop free. Dont hit to hard or you could risk bending the shaft.

i rented the one from autozone, they had a big one and a small one. the big one fit mine. i wound up rounding off the puller, so i ground it down to the next sive down, and it popped off. but did use heat, pd and tried to cut it off.

I pulled mine with a free rental from the auto parts store. I also brought it back broken, but since the brand was one of those 100% guaranteed brands they didn't say anything.

If you are replacing it, why not just cut it off. I have never been able to get one of those off without spending alot of time on it. That was until I discovered an angle grinder....lol
