Need advice on a soft top

The long story is my son is in the Navy based in Virginia and with this blast of cold weather we have discovered the block in his truck is damaged. I found him a 2001 Wrangler that currently has a soft top. The top has some slight damage and it may last him for the next three years he is there but I am thinking about going ahead and replacing it and I think a color change of the top would look better.

This is our families first Jeep so I am curious about brands of tops that would be best? I have seen all sorts of prices but would like some feedback from Jeep people.

Thanks for any help/advice.

Bestop makes the oem tops for jeep they are top quality. All 2001- current use sailcloth material tops from the factory they are quieter and hold I'm heat a little better. They are roughly 6-700. Send a private message to quAdratec on the forum for a quote they will give a 10% discount and usually free shipping

Can also get a used factory soft top. Plenty of people sell the top itself. The fame is the hard part to find for a resonable price but it sounds like it might be good? I bought our TJ soft top with frame and door surrounds here in the classifieds.

If the soft top is still serviceable keep it, for now and get by. In the meantime, shop around on the internet--Google is your friend! Look at as many vendors as you can, check sale pricing, rebates, forum discounts (free shipping or better), et c.

I replaced my '02 OEM soft top last spring. I upgraded to a Sailcloth Replace-A-Top (R-A-T) for under $500, delivered. And it is an improvement over my OEM top. I shopped, over the winter, for months on-line before I pulled the trigger, and I know I did well. Good luck in your search.

YMMV, and invariably will...

Any top that is listed as a Replacement Top will use the factory hardware you have. Generally, the higher price tops are going to the better quality. Bestop makes great replacement tops. The sailcloth is a heavy duty material that will cut down on flapping and wind noise and hold up well in the weather. Barricade makes a nice full replacement top that is a little cheaper but still sailcloth and includes the windows and everything you need to put the top on your factory hardware.
