I had an 05 Xterra, it was a great all round performer for everyday driving but the Rubicon is the preferred off road vehicle. For an only vehicle, Wranglers aren't for everyone, but I think that's the appeal. I had my 88 YJ for about 19 years and now have a 92 YJ. Had my Xterra for 2 years and an Armada replaced it. Having a Wrangler as my only vehicle would be tough, I think comfort played a huge part for the judges on this comparison.

Lame. Anyone with half a brain knows that solid axles trump IFS/IRS any day. Xterras are rugged vehicles that do OK on the trail. Anything can drive on a trail....hell, a civic could do ok on a trail. If they would have taken the vehicles on something more difficult than my back yard, the jeep would have shined. Bunch of dorks.

I thought it was fairly comical that they didn't like the "noisy" tires. Haha.

From the comments in the link
pennrck22 (07/29/08 03:24 PM)A joke yea..but not because the fj didnt win, r u serious?? this test was about true 4x4 capability..theres no question the hummer should of won..these vehicles are built for serious offroading..it came down to price and visiblity?? this wasnt a comparison test in which these things might actually matter...come on!!

that was just totally silly. No way I would choose an Xterra over a Rubi for offroading!

In all honesty, for most people who want to do some light trails occassionaly but using it mostly as a daily driver, you can't dent that an Xterra is better. HOWEVER, if this was about off roading ONLY then clearly a Rubi would destroy them and the H3 would most likely be second.
