I refurbish and reprogram Jeep gauge clusters. If you have any questions I can probably answer them.

I may have some business for you... look for a PM later today

87-91 the light shines around the gauges face and they have a clock
92-95 Gauges are back lit and a 4wd light replaced the clock

I have a set of guages sitting at the house for a YJ. Problem is, the backlit portion is also the main structure. So you have to blot out behind, and still get light up front. To do it right.

Im noodling those, have a set from Simpson Jeep salvage on loan to try and get it working.

My main push right now is to get the JK ones up and going, because that is where my requests are. Looking into some expensive printers that will allow me to do all of them, so its a matter of growing.

The TJ Type ones with the carbon fiber background look awesome, When I go to do the LED mods I'm going to pick one up for sure! (matching Heater control bezel is great too!)

Thank you! Although I would REALLY think about converting to LEDs. There are a lot of cons, and very few pros. unless you are converting to jeep to an EV, and need every bit of amperage possible, stick to regular bulbs. They will live longer and look better. The later TJ clusters were engineered with LEDs and cooling in mind, and probably run on much lower voltage (aka voltage regulation is handled elsewhere in the cluster) .

Are you saying LED's don't last as long as incandescent bulbs?

In the application, no. they dont. On paper, in happy internet land, where they dont have fluctuating temperatures, vibration, and wildly varying voltage... they work 100%

Unfortunately, the things that kill LEDs are heat and voltage. Our power systems vary from 9v to 14v. Too much, burns tehm out. Too little (over teh course of time... say 6 months) kills them. Turn your interior light dimmer bulb, and you are killing them at an even better pace.

They expect a stable voltage, cooling (or proper heatsink) to function right. Our vehicles were meant with incandescent bulbs in mind. The ones in my 96 are original. Teh ones in my 1980 Honda are original. They last. The LEDs I tried replacing them with... lasted 2 months.

Except for the turn signal leds... those lasted longer, as well as the brake light ones. Probably because they have an easier time cooling and have a set voltage.

That being said, companies do make a proper replacement bulb, that has teh right socket for the gauges, built in heatsink, and more than just a resistor wired in tho drop the voltage.

They also cost about $10 a piece before shipping.

Well I got the small ones figures out, they are the same as used in the older XJs. The other ones are just translucent 1/8" thick circles that hold the electronics up.

I would not complain, especially if you can catch it in diagnostic mode (hold trip reset in while turning to run, release when it starts chiming) with a straight on shot

I Tried Diagnostic mode, but it basically just went through each of the lights and gauges individually, so I got this picture instead.

Everything LimeLJ said was correct, Im just gong to add a couple.

*Bottom Left * Low fuel Lamp -> E-Brake Light -> ABS Light

*Bottom Right* Has CEL -> "Check Gauges" -> Airbag Light

*Top Center* -> High beams directly above Seatbelt
