How to take tar like gunk off the inside of my hard top

I'm a new owner of a 2006 tj, my first jeep. A few days ago I went and bought a used hard top. The seller didn't really clean it and the inside of the top has a tar like goop. I'm trying to figure out the best way of removing the gunk without damaging the hard top.

A product that I have used on tar is “Road Tar & Bug Gel”. It works pretty good although I’ve never tried on the interior of a hard top.

Edit: to the forum.
