Is this a good deal to work on?
Hi
I am new to the forum and Hopefully joining the Jeep family. I am looking at a 2007 JK Unlimited X at the local dealer. I am awaiting some information regarding towing etc (The description says tow package yet there is no hitch?) but it has 98,000 km on it and they are asking $19,998 CDN for it. The black book value as I can see is $15-18,000 for that vehicle. I know I can deal a bit for it as the salesman is a friend of mine. I guess my main question is regarding the mileage...is 98000km a bit excessive for a 2-3 year old Jeep? Is it something I should avoid and look for something else? Given where I live I have to assume that the mileage is all highway and it was likely a daily commuter. Any opinions are appreciated! Thanks for a great forum! I did read the first 100 pages of the technical section and took lots of notes! Sean

That's only 60,000miles, that's about 20,000 miles a year which isn't bad especially if it was used for a commuter. If it was towed behind an RV that may also be why the higher mileage. But to me that doesn't seem like that high of mileage. The 3.8L in the JKs is a very good motor longevity wise, so I wouldn't worry.

Tow pkg, means it has hooks on the front and rear for being towed. Not that it is equipped with a hitch.

Reading your replies yeah that makes more sense...I was dividing it up over 2 years!
As for tow package that makes sense too! I just assumed it meant trailer towing! It does have 3 hooks! I will have to get some more info on its towing capacity as I want to tow my tent trailer with it...its around 1300 lbs. Thanks for the replies and the info! That mileage is high for a 2007, and the price seems high as well. I would pass on it and find something with a lot less mileage, and no, towing package does not mean you get hooks. It's wired for towing and I believe it comes with 4.10 gears.

What? The little hooks for recovery points are not your tow package. lol. Tow package has a harness for trailer lights, a hitch, and 3:73 gears for some reason, not the 4:10's.

I was thinking the mileage was a bit high but not too bad if the engines are reliable. I will see if I can get a look at a build sheet for it to see if it is wired and what gears it has. I am mainly looking at this one because it is local...and its rescue green!

With that many miles, Most likely all highway miles. Nothing to worry about. See if theres service records. If it runs out good, Just keep up on the maintenance. Jeeps can go at 50k or 250k. Its how you take care of it. Good luck

I went down and took my family out for a test drive today. I noticed right away that it has a 2" lift and new BFG AT's on it. It looks very good! I was going to do that anyways!
So I cant find anything glaring with the transmission or anything in 4H or 4L, and other than a few scratches and stuff its very clean and runs well. I have asked him to let me know what incentives may apply to the new 2009s that may convince me to go that route and also to get some info on my trade in value. Next week I will bring my trade in and see what he came up with! Its all very exciting but I am trying to remain objective :P |
