well i know the early TJ's were actually made in 96 but sold as a 97. Come to think of it when i began looking for my jeep i was trying to talk a friend of a friend into selling me his TJ, it was a 96, so i imagine it was (close to) one of the first built

1998 TJ Sport : Rough Country, MetalCloak,KC, Goodyear, Crager, Alpine, AtoZ, Currie, Aussie

The last 6 digits of the VIN are the build sequence numbers and they are always in number order. If your TJ has a -000001 as the last 6 digits it is the very first one made. I will bet no one has that one, it is probably died in crash testing.

I was kind-of only kidding about -000001 being the first TJ made, it's only a sequence number. -000001 is probably the first Mopar made. The sequence number is most likely Mopar wide (all vehicles) and not TJ specific.

Now all we need to know is the starting sequence number for TJ. We know it's at least 420950 (Apr 96) so far. My TJ is a year later and has a much higher sequence number.

420950 (Apr 96) (psimo61)
533623 (Apr 97) (sportcoupe)

Anyone have a lower sequence number then 420950? If so post it and the build month/year please.
