does a 1992 wrangler 2.5 have a choke?

my dad in CA sent me this email about his stock 1992 wrangler with 2.5L:

"jeep starts OK in the morning but when I pull out on 44 it wants to stall. I have to rev it up a few times as it seems to be choking out before it'll go. Then as I drive down the road it seems to almost die between shifts. Today at the post office when I tried to restart it, it seemed like it was flooded and wouldn't start. Fortunately I tried flooring the gas pedal and it started OK. Everything is fine once it warms up. I just tried restarting it just now and everything was fine. It seems like a choke problem but it's fuel injected. It's been getting steadily worse since last winter."

I have an 88' YJ with a carb soooo, I assumed it was a choke issue.
Any ideas would be great, and I suggested my dad join this great forum

A carburetor has a choke, but ALL Jeep 2.5L Wranglers are Fuel Injected from the factory. They do not have a choke. Something is amiss with his sensors, I would check the air intake temperature and coolant temperature sensors to see if they are functioning properly.

Pushing the pedal to WOT activates a circuit in the computer system that forces the injection system into a preset value.

It could also be the Idle Air Control valve (IAC) on the throttle body. Might just be dirty. Try getting some throttle body cleaner and cleaning it up to see if it helps.

Heres a pic of the IAC on the throttle body. Inside the bore you'll see a port that goes to the IAC, spray the cleaner in there to clean it out, or you can remove it and give it a thorough cleaning.

Holding the gas pedal to the floor when you start the engine puts the computer into "flood" mode, cutting off fuel delivery until the engine turns over enough times. This give the engine the chance to clear out excess fuel so that the A/F ratio is just right for combustion. When the engine is running, going WOT does what Xpress said above.

My guess is either a problem with the IAC or dirty/faulty injectors causing a fuel rich condition. A good start would to be to check for codes as see what pops up. Might give you an idea of any issues recognized by the computer.
