You guys can't see the forest for the trees! It's very likely that the Wrangler could be discontinued. It wasn't the end of the world when the CJ was discontinued and the Wrangler was born. It's possible that only the Wrangler NAME is going away. The replacement vehicle may have a new name but that doesn't mean that the "Jeep" is going away.

How many people thought that Chevy would stop making the Camaro? It was out of production for 6 or 7 years. I think it would be unlikely to see them drop the wrangler line, but never say never.

Jeep getting rid of the Wrangler? That would be right up there with Chevrolet discontinuing the Corvette. There are just certain automotive Icons auto manufacturers know not to screw with, Corvette and Jeep CJ/Wrangler being two of the most prominent.
Cosmetic, Mechanical, Product Name Changes for the Wrangler, probably, basic design formula dating back to WW2 being changed, doubt it. |

this is absolutely ludicrous. Jeep has announced big plans for the Wrangler in 2011 (new engines among other major changes). I'd tell that vendor right where he can stick his "rumor" (did he drive a Toyota by any chance?)
Jeep is Chrysler's most valuable asset, and the Wrangler is Jeep's most (if not only) valuable asset, the guy has no idea what garbage he is spewing out of his mouth. lets not forget how popular the JK is worldwide, unlike any Wrangler before it. After the Defender is re-designed in 2012, the Wrangler will be the LAST real 4x4 that you can buy brand new with solid axles front and rear. The worst that might ever happen is a name change.

This sounds right to me, but does anyone have any facts on this? Any financial data on how profitable the Wrangler is to Jeep, the Jeep division to Chrysler?

It may go through some more changes, but the wrangler isn't going anywhere, anytime soon. The safty nazi's are allways banging away on it trying to turn it into something that it's noy meant to be. In my opinion, the last wrangler was built in 06 anyway. There's enough jeeps a round to last us for the rest of our lives if they stopped building them tomarrow.

Who would have thought that GM would discontinue Oldsmobile and Pontiac? Next time you drive down the highway, COUNT the number of Pontiacs you see on the road. Popularity does not always translate into profit. Now, I understand the profit situation to be a bit healthier on the Wrangler than it was on Pontiacs, and of course GM had mirror images of the Pontiac within the Buick and Chevy brands, so the situation is not identical. My point is that nowadays manufacturers are no longer married to a brand name for the simple reason that BUYERS are no longer married to a brand name. Brand faithful people are in the minority. What the manufacturers dont seem to get is the fact that brand faithful people are in the minority BECAUSE manufaturers don't stay loyal to their own brands!
Bottom line, Fiat is thinking global. Just because a Wrangler sells well in the states does not mean it is safe. Who the freak knows what comes next?

From everything I have heard and read, is the the CEO of jeep and FIAT are leaving the wrangler alone, except for some new engines and transmission options. And that the flagship of Jeep the Wrangler will be continued as long as Jeep is around. But this is just what every 4 wheel drive magazine and everything I have read on the net has told me. And why would they get rid of the wrangler when it is the best selling model, that would be idiot move on anyone's part. Remember FIAT isn't dumb they are successful for a reason, and making dumb decisions isn't one of them. I do know the FIAT is planning on rebadging some of there crap as Jeeps, to replace the compass, patriot and liberty.
