did i get a deal or what!?!

just picked up a ford 9 inch housing for $200 but here's the kicker(s) it already has all the brecketry for a soa YJ, has D60 front spindles welded on, disc brake brackets, 31/30 double spline chromo shafts. all it needs is a 3rd member, brakes and drive slugs.

i will be getting currie's high pinion 3rd member with a detroit and 4.86 gears.

Not trying to screw up your plan but you may look into a Hi9 before the Currie unit.
The Currie Units use a 8.8 ring and pinion. I believe 4.56 is as low as you can go.
The Hi9 uses 9" ring and pinion. Not only stronger but pretty much endless gear ratios.

Hogwash. 8.8 can go down to 6.14 unless there is some kind of limitation in the Currie Unit making it not compatible with all 8.8 gears.

Sorry just looked at Curries site. They list 5.29 as their lowest.
I would still go with the Hi9.
If I remeber right Currie states 35" tires is as big as you should go with their high pinion 9.
I am running 36" Iroks and have not had a problem with the Currie unit.

iroks are also a very light tire. i would think your 9 would hold up to bigger than 35's though.
