Dana 35 with 31's
I just bought a 97 TJ Sahara with the Dana 35 rear axle. If I only want to run 31's am I still ok? My experience is limited to the indestructible 85 CJ7
I ran a turdy-5 with 31s on my YJ for about 2 years, no problems.

The 35 will hold up fine with 31's for normal trail use and even some extreme stuff, however, you don't want a constant diet of the big rocks. They can even damage the 8.8. If you want to make your 35 a little tougher, throw in a set of 30 spline axles with a matching Detroit tru-trac, this will get you trough some pretty rough country when needed. MY 35 has held up well over the years with 31's.

Thanks y'all. I Plan to run 31s for 2 or 3 years then upgrading to 33s. Ain't really got any rocks here in East Texas and I really don't plan on hitting the hard mud. Just mainly some trails. I'll just have to yake some care.
31s are fine, ran them on my first tj with a d35 for its whole life no problems.....

I'm still on 235/75s and I noticed my rearend leaking. Pulling the diff cover I noticed a dent by a diff cover bolt in just the right spot where it won't come out. After pulling all the other diff bolts I was finally able get it off. Lo and behold there is a bolt with the head sheared off in the bottom of my housing. The crazy thing is there wasn't any noises from the rear end. Have to get some pics of it here tomorrow
Apparently it was my ring gear bolts that decided to start biting the dust. Done lost three. Guess I ain't hitting the trails this weekend. Unless I could hit the hardware store for some grade 8 bolts? Was going to order new bolts from Quadratec but if I can get replacements sooner....
