So if I understand correctly you want to buy a carb from eBay but don’t want to pay a core charge.

If they aren’t asking for one then I see no problem. If on the other hand they require a core from you then that’s what you’ll need to do.

Am I missing something here (it happens more often than I like) because it sounds like a no brainer?

I think he's asking if he buys a carb from eBay if it's possible to take the removed carb to an auto parts store and receive a $100 core return credit. If that's what you're asking I'm sure the answer is no.

The core charge is so you bring back the item you replaced. You bring it back and you get the core charge back. The parts store sends it to the manufacturer and overhauls it and then it's back on the shelf for the next guy.

Parts stores aren't in the market for purchasing used broke down parts. Salvage/junk yards purchase that stuff.

You could try but I doubt it. It’s such a small item and if they did it probably would cost you more in gas than what they would give you. Try giving one a call and see what they say.

I see 2 choices.

1) You can rebuild your old one and resell it for a profit. You'll learn more about it's working and you may be able tomake some money rebuilding ones you can find/fix at the junk yard and reselling.

2) or try to sell it as is, making sure you post that it is sold "AS IS" and needs to be rebuilt for the $100 that you are looking to get.
