Cheap Timken wheel bearing hub assy!

As I discovered that Advanced Auto Parts doesn't enter you phone number for warranty parts I realized I was going to have to spend another $120 on a front wheel bearing/hub assembly. Needless to say I was pissed because I had just bought the thing a few months ago and it was still under warranty. Apparently on non-lifetime warranty items (1yr, 3mo, etc) they don't enter your phone number for the warranty unless you request it. After telling them exactly how I felt about that policy I left to keep myself from jumping the counter to de-limb the moron on the other side. Well, thankfully, Ebay saved the day. Tennessee Autosales had a new wheel bearing for a mere $50 and it's a Timken bearing! So if you run 35's and go through wheel bearings like candy at a kindergarten, don't pay $120 anymore, just Ebay it! And no, I don't work for them, I was just too overjoyed making this discovery to not share it.

I'm going to be replacing the left hub shortly, and won't be going to the dealer next time!

I have 93k on mine...I don't have any issues I can see with my front end. Is it obvious when these unit bearings go? Is there a surefire way to check?

thanks ahead of time.

You can check them by jacking up the front end, grabbing the top and bottom of the tire and trying to check for play. Be aware that you will always have some movement, especially with bigger wheels/tires and try to isolate the movement. If there is play, check it front to back as well to verify it is a wheel bearing and not just ball joints. A wheel bearing will have equal play all the way around whereas ball joints would only be top and bottom movement.

Advanced auto by me registers everything. They can tell me what I bought 2 yrs ago including the Coke because it was hot that day.
I bought a cheap A## no warranty rebuilt alternator (because I was broke and needed one NOW) It crapped out 14 months after I bought it. When I went in to get another one they wouldn't sell me a new one until they checked to see if the old one was still on warranty. Give name and phone # and they could pull up every receipt. They saw it was an elcheapo so this time they sold me a lifetime one, After the 10% military discount they also tacked on another 15% off just because. It ended up costing me less then the first one.

Gotta love it!

Yeah, I had a lot of play in the right. Plus I was getting bad vibes around
45-50 mph.

I thought that was how it worked too, which is why I didn't save my reciept. According to what the guy told me, though, it isn't policy to enter your phone number for less than lifetime warranties unless you tell them to. If your store does, awesome, but beware, if they don't ask for your number, they probably aren't putting it in the system.
