If you're big enough. I had a friend that did it with his TJ.

I have done it.
It sucks.
You get underneath it, wearing it kinda like a turtle shell and step off the back of the Jeep.
It's not that it is so heavy, its just so big and awkardly balanced. (that's what she said)

I guess it could be done but that thing is pretty bulky and awkward. If your a big strong guy and not too concerned about scratching the tub or the top, you can give it a shot. I certainly would be easier to offer a beer to a buddy and have him swing by and help you out. As I recall, the TJ hardtop weights somewhere between 140-150lbs.

It can be. Getting it back on again can be tougher.
I used two ratchet straps and a hand winch I bought from the hardware store.
Hoisted it up to the roof of my garage for the summer.

I did it that way twice, 2nd time I ended up buying new rear glass. Now I use one of those hard top hoists.

The definitive answer is yes it can be done, and it sucks doing it, and as others have said, you don't really want to do it.
I did it a couple times and then I just got smart and waited until I had help.
It's an uncomfortable feeling when it starts to unbalance itself because you are caught having to decide whether you would prefer to break your top or do bodily injury to yourself. One of those two thoughts is on your mind the entire time.

Yup, I back up to the picnic table, get in the back a pick it up and move it about halfway back, get out and pick it up from the back and sit it on the table. Works well for me because the table is only around 3" lower than the back of the Jeep.

IMO, it's not worth taking the risk of breaking the rear hatch window. They are very expensive to replace, more so if you have the defroster/wiper.

Don't drop it... you can hurt yourself or break the glass.
For a few bucks I got a cheap pulley tackle, some hoods and steel cable. It's actually fairly easy that way.

Someone posted a video a few weeks back of 1 guy installing his hardtop buy himself. So I guess 1 person could remove it but I wouldn't recommend it.

Well I think that even if you’re physically capable of doing it yourself the smarter option would to buy one of the several top hoists available. Why set yourself up for tragedy (dropped, broken hardtop)?
