Anyone run a Smittybilt XRC-8 winch?
Anyone run a Smittybilt XRC-8 winch? If so, what's been your experience? I will be using it for light to moderate wheeling and probably not that often. I mean it's $200 cheaper, if not more, than the Warn M8000. Even if someone has run the XRC-10 I am curious to hear your experience. It'll be mounted on a YJ soon to have 35's and some other stuff. Thanks

I run the XRC-8, I have used mine several times mainly just to see if it's going to work or break and I haven't had any issues with it at all. I have been very happy with the performance of it with no complaints. I also purchased mine for the light to moderate wheeling. No problems with it here.

If you use "Search" you will find numerous threads on both versions of this winch. It was these threads that convinced me that this was the winch for me. I ordered mine through 4 wheel parts when they were running their sale and offering a free base plate...$303 shipped. I ended up with the newer version...higher HP motor. I don't believe anyone has any of the previous ones left...at least not new anyway. Have not had to use it on me yet but installation and operation are a breeze.

Yup... And mine has done a handful of good pulls. This past weekend I pulled out a lifted Z71 on boggers that was buried (in moving water) over the axles. Single line pull wouldn't budge him. Snatch block and doubled back to my Jeep finally worked.
OH btw- mine is the older model with the lower HP motor.

I just got one, with the newer style motor so hopefully it'll do well. I've tested it a bit but haven't done a serious pull yet. Hoping to use it very little but I do tend to push my luck off road. Just wanted Hampster to know if you need a winch plate I've got the free one that came with mine. It won't fit a JK but the paperwork with it said it will on a YJ or TJ. You're welcome to it for the price of shipping, or if you're up Chattanooga way just stop by. Also, I think the XRC 10 is the same motor with different gearing so I would expect it to be a bit slower.

This winch is a great upgrade! I have used it 3 times to basicly drag my jeep through deep muddy ruts - worked like a charm, the only problem I had during the pull was my check gauges light came on once or twice. Was pulling too many amps - haha!
I would highly recomend the XRC-8 Winch - Can't wait to see how far I can get on the snowy trails this winter!
