2005 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon Sahara Unlimited FAQ

In 2005, Paramount released the movie Sahara which featured a Jeep Wrangler. As a way to build off the success of the movie, Jeep released a limited production “Sahara Edition” Rubicon. Only 1000 were produced and each one is numbered. All of them are visually identical, but some were offered in a manual and others an automatic. They are all Light Khaki, Unlimiteds. Trim differences over the standard Rubicon include chrome grill, color matched flares, dual tops, Graphite Moab wheels, a Sahara spare tire cover, upgraded seats, Sahara decals, tail light guards, and a numbered dash badge.

FAQ

Q: How do I find out what number mine is if the badge is missing or damaged?

A: If you are trying to locate your number, call Imperial Marketing at 1-888-267-2187 and provide them your vin#.

Q: Werent they just randomly assigned dash badge numbers from the factory so there is no way to tell if mine is correct?

A: Once they were assigned their limited edition number at the factory an accessory package with all of the limited edition accessories (dash badge, fender decals, spare tire cover, etc.) was sent to the receiving dealership in a box that had that specific vehicles VIN number posted on the outside of the package. It was then the dealership's responsibility to assure that the limited edition accessories made it onto that vehicle. This has been found to not have been the case in several instances where a limited edition Rubicon Sahara was sold with out having had the accessories installed. Also some of the limited edition Rubicon Sahara's (like mine) were sold with the wrong accesory kit when more than one limited edition model was recieved and sold by the same dealership.

Q: Was the khaki paint color unique to just the limited edition models?

A: No, khaki was a factory color option in both SWB (TJ) and LWB (LJ) models Jeep Wranglers.

Q: Did all of the "limited edition" models come with exactly the same options?

A: While most seem to have all of the same options there are reported differences in some of them. It is not known if this is due to previous owners, dealership modifications, or factory variances.

Q: How do I find out if mine is a "limited edition"?

A: The "limited edition" came with a numbered dash badge numbering 1-1000.

Q: Mine is missing its badge, how do I know if its "limited edition" or not. It has all of the same options as the others.

A: If your vehicle is less than five years old you can request a copy of the window sticker from the dealership which "should" list the Sahara badge on it. The following web link is a resource to obtain a build sheet on your vehicle: http://www.jeep.com/wccsapp/universal/J/index.jsp?appStr=wccs&titleStr=Contact+Jeep&family Str=brand&franchise=J&actionURL=%2Fwccs%2Fbrand_fo rms%2Fus%2Fwebform.jsp&promotion=null&category=U

I own one. Number 667.

It's kind of a waste is you ask me but back in June of 05 I wanted a Khaki Unlimited Rubi with a 6 spd and this was all we could find locally. The taillight guards, plaque, were in a box just laying in the back. Not much of a package but I did sell the wheels and tires on Ebay for $1k.

Sticker was around $29k

I thought that at first too, but then I noticed the brackets where the rear window pushes into were never installed. The holes are still painted shut where the brackets would be.

Soft top only here also.

Dual Tops pushed the sticker above $30K for a record price on a Wrangler.

Not much of my Sahara package left.

Interesting. I thought the soft top and hardtop used those brackets. I know mine does.

I want to get the brackets. My rear glass window fits terrible. I think it would fit better with the brackets installed.
