I am still looking at classifieds, but can't find any deals that suit me. Is wanting a 6cyl Wrangler from 1997 with AC, big tires, and a lift too much for 6K?

Craigslist is good. Some cities have cheap or free local or regional newspapers or magazines that advertise used cars and trucks. Check grocery stores, news stands, or convenience stores for those. Google is also your friend.

I'm using Craigslist, but I still can't find any really good deals like I found earlier, or any cars that have what I want for the price i want. Stupid overpriced Wranglers... Hopefully the prices will drop as gas goes up and the summer comes to an end.

Thanks man.

As gas prices continue to rise, I think we'll see an increased demand for smaller, more fuel efficient cars. The prices on larger cars and trucks will drop quickly because fewer and fewer people will want to buy something that has poor fuel economy. The higher gas goes, the more people will be willing to change their habits and preferences. Everyone has a pain point in terms of the cost of gas. Some people ditched the more inefficient cars when gas was $3.00 a gallon, and more and more people will make change as gas hits $4 and then $5. It's difficult to read that gas was $1.30 back in 2000.

It's amazing that it has run up so fast, but the global demand is just so huge. I read a story in the Wall Street Journal a couple of weeks ago that talked about the ballooning demand for automobiles in China. It's so ironic that all the cheap crap Americans buy from China has in part fueled so much newfound wealth for them which as directly caused the demand and price for gas to rise so much here (any everywhere).

I do realize how freakin hot Texas gets, but I do not think AC is going to help that much with the top off. Like I said trust me it will turn into your DD

It would be worthless to run the AC with the top off.

Well I will have my top up when I go to work this summer. I don't wanna leave it down all day where some idiot can mess with it.

Now, my search for an awesome deal continues even though unless it is super amazing I wont get it till the end of summer

You have a ton of time before you. Many summers. No need to hurry things. It's worth waiting to get the right vehicle.

You do realize that you can put the top up or down very easily right? It doesn't have to be up or down all the time

I just don't want the top down when the Jeep is in a parking lot with me a hundred feet in the air half a mile away. Now, when I am cruising around or doing something with friends the top will definitely be down.

BTW guys, if i opt for settling with a 4cyl. will I have troubles getting up to 75 on the highway? The speed limit is 70MPH here and I would like to be able to go faster for passing people and such. Also, would a 4cyl. hurt me when mudding if I don't really have any upgrades other than a small lift and big tires?

I am not sure about the ease of putting a soft top up and down but I thought it was hardish so I do not use mine. I leave mine in a bad city when i go to school topless. I pay insurance for a reason.

I have liability insurance. Which means if something is stolen or the Jeep is jacked up by some punk I am royally screwed.

Get comprehensive. It is not that much more and it covers fire theft vandalism and glass. A soft top will provide just about as much protecting as leaving a pug in you jeep. Also if they slash your soft top to get in (which is pointless because there are other very easy ways to get in) then on top of the stolen stuff you need a new top or part of it. get a kill switch and lock box if you care that much

Simple fixes to leaving the top down:

Most "Wranglers" come with locked gloveboxes.
Get a lock box.
Get a stereo (if thats what your into) with a removable face.

All soft tops can be a pain in the keester, but I believe you can get some kind of hard top for some of them?

I'm planning on buying a small safe and attaching it to a pillar with something lockable, or maybe bolting it to the floor.
