So I Test Drove a 4 Door Wrangler...Sluggish?

First of all, thank you Jason for the feedback a few weeks ago about my hard-top / soft-top question.

So this last weekend I decided to go out and check out a few models on the dealer lot. Of coarse me being a young college student, the salesman let me test drive the "top of the line" model (the Modern Warfare edition) after I had specified that I wanted to test drive a 2-door Sahara...figures.

Anyways I have to say that my experience in that 4-door model felt very sluggish? I felt it wasn't very responsive and grunted along very slowly. Is this normal?

I later test drove the 2-door Sahara (finally) and was more satisfied with its greater responsiveness.

Also, what is the difference between the Sahara, Rubicon, and Sport?

I know I'm asking a lot of questions, but I'm trying to learn as much as I can so my first jeep will be exactly what i want

Thank you in advance for your help!

Sport is the basic jeep, it use to be called "wrangler X" but now there is a sport plus or premium. Which is the same as a sport but with a few extras like better wheels, stereo etc etc and it may have some options not available on the basic sport. The Sahara has painted fender flares, special badging, and has some colors that are sahara only colors. The Sahara also has alot more standard features that are options on the sport. The sport and sahara come with dana 44 rear and a dana 30 front. The RUBICON has 4.10's 44's front and rear, air lockers better shocks, tires and a 4 to 1 rock track transfer case. Next time use google lol

The difference you felt was likely because the 2-door is lighter than the 4-door. If you get a chance, test drive a 2011 or prior model for a comparison. I think you'll find the 2012 significantly more energetic. Remember that ultimately, it's still a box on wheels, not a race car.

Agreed!! The new motor is a great deal better than the previous one. If you're concerned about power and the price then buy a 2dr sport 6spd with the optional 4.10 gears. That's how I priced one recently for my GF recently

I had the same experience you did with the power difference. But of course the weight diff. The 2 door feels very crisp and fun to drive the 4 door kinda feels like a pig. The new 3.6L engine does help the 4 door some but makes the 2 door a blast.
