Should I sell my YJ to get a TJ?

I am thinking about selling my YJ to get into a TJ, but i'm not too sure if I want to yet. I will be paying cash for the TJ from an unrelated insurance settlement, and then selling mine if I do it, so I won't be getting into debt to do it. I love my YJ, its my 2nd YJ, but I really like the comfort of my YJ. My YJ has got me almost everywhere I have wanted to, but I would like something a little more capable, not to mention smooth riding-I am getting tired of how much I get tossed around even when doing just light 4 wheeling like logging roads and stuff. Plus I drive it everyday in the winter and this last winter I was starting to get real tired of it, to the point where I wanted to get something else to drive. I already have one summer only car though, so I need a Jeep as my DD. Whats a TJ like on the highway compared to my YJ? I spend more time now doing highway driving now than I did when I got the YJ, due to owning my own business now, I have business errands to do. Plus it would be nice if it had a little more room for cargo in it, not sure if a TJ would? On the other hand, I have had my YJ for a while now, and I have put a lot of work into it too, so I know where I am at there, although it does have a few minor issues that need to be addressed. Any opinions on this? One other thing is, mine now is black, which I really don't like, so this time I will try to get a color I like, ideally yellow. Sorry about the long post, thanks for the help.

If you really like your YJ and it has almost everything you desire, do a Clayton long arm conversion for a TJ. Basically, when you get done, you will have a long arm kit for a TJ under your YJ. The long arm will give you great road manners and yet you will love the off road manners.

Just my opinion but I think my LJ and the TJ in the family both drive more comfortable than my old YJ. Not neccesarily better, just different in feeling a bit less bouncy. Maybe its all in my head but the interior in the TJ/LJ feels a lot more comfortable. My YJ always felt a bit rough with high riding seat brackets, vinyl seats, a sparse dash, and a steering system that transfered a lot of road vibration. The YJ soft top also seemed a lot louder too and at least the Bestop soft top was much louder on my YJ than the OEM one on the TJ/LJ. I plan on getting another YJ at some point cause Ive loved em since I saw them come out in 89, but for a daily driver I like a TJ/LJ better. I think both are really capable offroad setup properly so I would say that aspect is more of personal preference, but for on road, especially long trips, I'd go with a TJ/LJ.

I almost forgot about the soft top, it looks like it would be a whole lot easier to put the top up and down on the TJ, which I also like. I do like the vinyl seats, but the TJ has that too.

Why not keep them both,if you are paying cash for the TJ.You could use the TJ as your DD and keep your YJ for pretty much wheeling only. Then you got the best of both worlds.

I want to wheel the TJ too, plus I can't keep and insure three cars.

You can only drive one at a time. I have had multiple vehicles at once and found I only drove what I insured and only insured what I drove. The uninsured vehicle will most likely go downhill if outside. My new philosphy is only keep what I can maintain and insure. The money I save by having less vehicles, gives me more available funds to make the ones I do have, much more enjoyable.

Its a 94, and I do plan to sell it. I looked at a nice TJ last night, its a 99, green,164000 kms on it, working A/C, both tops, an alarm and upgraded stereo. Oh and of course the 4.0L cause I won't buy anything else. The dealer wants 6800$ for it, which I think is decent. I don't know how I feel about the alarm, but I like the stereo, means I don't have to spend the money to do it.

I decided to do it, my girlfriend really wants the TJ too, she likes the nice ride of it. I am undecided on the green 99, as she didn't like the green. I found a nice 01, its steel blue, 166,000kms,hardtop and new soft top, 4.0L sport, also has a decent stereo in it. I decided I want to get a 2000 or newer as they made some changes in 2000.
