Recommend the '08 Commander??!!

VERY unsure of my initial choice to consider an '08 Commander. I've test driven at least 4 or 5. Absolutely love the vehicle. Can see it being a lot of fun.

However, after reading all the issues on this board, could anyone still recommend that I continue with my purchase? I haven't read one thread that suggests anything other than running the other way. But like many of you, this car just makes sense. Should I heed the advice and look at something else? Or, are there those of you that would do it all over again?

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. I currently drive a Cadillac DTS, so this would be my first Jeep. NEVER have had ONE issue with my Cadillac. Been to the dealer only for scheduled maintenance. Jeep? Or no Jeep?

Yeah . . . doesn't seem like anyone really wants to recommend this vehicle. Or, could recommend it. I talked with a family friend who works for a Jeep/Chrysler dealership. Says he got a 2006 Overland the day they hit the market. 3 months later it was back to Jeep as a Lemon Law. Says he saw at least 10+ come back the same route just at his one dealership. But they sold 40+. So, about a 25% return.

Says he hasn't touched that vehicle since. But did mention that he hasn't seen AS many issues with the 2008's. Hardly any with the 2009's. But also stated that everyone is pretty much staying away after the last couple of year's.

Pretty tough decision. Seems like everyone else saying not to jump off the bridge, but here I am still considering jumping off the bridge. While at a dealership here in Austin I did talk to one owner who was in the service department for a radio replacement, or something basic. Said it's the only time he's ever been to the service department. He had an '07 Limited with the HEMI. Said the only thing that sucks is the gas. Other than that, said he loved it.

Commanders are selling for $10,000 off sticker here. Normally, I'd not buy one. But, at that kind of price, it takes away much of the hesitation. I'm considering getting one.

That's a really good price. I went on the Jeep website, and an '09 Overland 4x4 starts at $46,490 (MSRP of course).

Yikes! That's Land Rover territory.

I bought one and has been really happy with is so far. The only issue I had with it was a bad gas cap, although I have not had it for very long.

DeclarationDay - Yeah. That's what I was thinking. Course, wouldn't you know that car sold since yesterday at 3pm. I checked it at 3pm, sent the listing over to my lender, told him to give me a quote, and he wrote back this morning, "Says the car is no longer listed." Sold! Found another '08 Overland with 5500 miles for $24k. Thinking this one might be the deal!

skyblade_001 - Nice to hear that you are enjoying it. I can definitely deal with a gas cap! Did talk with a young lady this morning who witnessed a Tahoe side swipe my Cadillac. *Yeah. No insurance, either.* Anyhow, she pulled over to act as a witness. She had a Commander Sport. Says she bought it brand new in '06 and has had one problem with the water leaking onto the floor board. They drilled some holes and she said she's never had any other issues. Though, she did mention she always hears the whistling noise, which the dealer couldn't figure out how to fix. I told her how to fix it thanks to this board!!
