Opinions on buying Yj

I seen an ad for a 89' 2.5 Yj. it has 195k kms and not to bad of rust. This is the ad:

1989 Jeep YJ Islander for sale. Jeep has 2.5 4cyl, std trans p.s., p.b. tilt, new am/fm cd player with 4 new speakers. It has hard top, soft top with tinted windows and binimi top. Lots of new parts, starter, battery, tires, spark plug wires and cap, radiator and clutch fan, exhaust, steering and front end parts, new spot lights on front, spare tire cover, windshield and more. Trans and clutch just serviced. Runs good and lots of fun to drive. Very little rust. Possible trades considered

But they are asking $6,450 and I think this is quite steep for just the 4 cyl with no mods, even though there is lots of maintenance done. And just wanted your input

Also just to fill you in i emailed him and he is interested in trade for my 94 mazda mx3 1.6 180k kms and wants me to throw down some cash as well but hasn't gotten back to me yet

For that price, you can have a 4.0 liter shipped in from the desert southwest or LA that has never seen snow and rarely seen rain. Bottom still factory painted, exhaust still silver.

Still has the paper build tag wrapped around the drivers side rear axle tube and factory chalk writing all over underneath.

For the cost of shipping vs. the cost and never ending headache of rust repair, to me it's no contest.

No way! Cut the price in half and then some and you got a pretty good deal.

I find a lot of owners of YJs think their YJ is worth more than it really is. Just say ok and keep looking.

Might as well keep using this thread lol what do you guys think about this jeep. 165000 kms

"4.2l inline 6 with a 5 spd. Low mileage for year. New front and back glass, alternator, distributor, water pump, fuel pump, computer, brakes don't have many miles on them since done either, clutch...
Needs a little body and interior work, steering column (someone tried to steal it and did a poor job of it), thermostat, battery, fluids changed (been parked a while), door locks, and the tires are leaking air (not sure if it's valve stems or the tires themselves).

Anything else I can tell you let me know."

I emailed him back with questions, he hasn't said anything about price yet and I haven't asked for the trade

Compare it to other jeeps in your area. One guy on here will shoot you a $2500 price. Another will say 5 or 6k. You need to check craiglist, ebay, classifieds in your area for comparable jeeps. Keep in mind the 4.2 is a carbed engine, just FYI.

Is a carbed engine a bad thing?
