opinions which to buy 1980 or 1985 cj7

I have the opportunity to buy either a 1980 or 1985 cj7, but are unsure which one. Both are good priced. They both have the 258 six, but the 80 is a 3 speed and the 85 is a 4 spd. I have not seen them in person and neither person that owns them can tell me anything mechanical info on what the transfer case or transmissions are. I have a good guess they both have model 20 rears and Dana 30 fronts. Gears I have NO clue.

What do you guys think which I should buy?

Is the 3 speed better than the 4 speed?

Last did they all come with Dana 300's, 208 or Dana 20's? I thought 20's went out in 1979? I could be wrong though.

Any input would be greatly appreciated!!

Thanks,
Steve

Here is the place for you to start:

http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f8/

After that I would go to Google and do a search on jeep CJ and see what would pop up.

This should be a start into finding out what you should buy. A single persons opinion is not worth much. A hundred people can indicate a direction.

I see your in FL.? I've got a very close friend here in AZ. has a 79 cj that is cherry through and through and it's for sale. Is all original, only mod is has hi performance cam, recent engine rebuild, tires etc. Don't know what he's asking for it but if you're interested, contact me if you want to talk with him. His name is Steve also. My contact number 9284140044. Even though the distance is far, might be worth the shot for you. Just trying to help out.
