New guy with questions about touring in a jeep

I am a long time motorcycle touring enthuiast that is considering acquiring a jeep for a couple reasons:

1. I love to tour with my wife but much of the more remote options (unpaved and poorly maintained roads) have never been available to us on a gold wing.

2. as I get older the heat and blasting crosswinds of the plains states are less and less fun on a bike.

3. we love the openness of cycle touring and have been thinking a soft top jeep would still give us that plus make the more remote and unpaved roads a new option.

I live out in the country in MN so a good 4WD is always a plus in winter.

So ...

what are the +'s and -'s of a jeep for my thinking. Are they really a viable option for touring?

A typical touring trip for me and the wife would be 4000 - 5000 miles thru as many 2 lane mountain roads as I can get. mostly motel overnights but with add'l cargo capacity of the jeep we'd probably also do some camping.

old vehicles don't scare me and I'm a pretty good mechanic. (I resurrect neglected vintage jap bikes as a hobby.)

thx in advance for comments or suggestions.

Well for just seat of the pants comfort on a long ride on or off road the Jk's is about as plush as it gets to date on any Jeep ever made. I went from my last 66Cj to a new Jk and it is night and day. Can do a 600 mile day with little issue. The latest Jk 012 has the power too, not a hot rod. But it has some good pull in a pass or towing now.

Get a dual sport.

If your butt is tough enough for 4000+ mile motorcycle trips, any modern Jeep will be comfortable enough for you.
