Looking to purchase a Grand Cherokee

Hi,

I've recently decided to buy a Grand Cherokee (1999-2004). I was hoping to get the I-6 with the limited model (gas mileage) and then I noticed the earlier ones have a 4-speed auto and the later 4.7's come with a 5-speed auto. I do know the old I-6 and 4 speed auto is bulletproof. Not too knowledgeable with the other drive trains. I will probably use it for light off road and snowboarding. Any suggestions?

The 4.7 is a great motor, don't settle for less.

I agree there is nothing wrong with the 4.7 and the mileage should be pretty similar I would think, being the I6 has to work pretty hard to pull the WJ around. When I drove a 4.7L Dakota on a test drive once, I remember it being very torquey more so than I thought out of a small V8.

Jeep Drivetrains

Thanks Guys,

I'm off tomorrow and will probably go look at a couple of Cherokees. Probably good to go with the V-8 in case I lift it and go with larger tires.
Cheers,
-M
