looking at a cj5 and need help

Okay so i am completely new to the jeep world but have loved the cj ever since i drove my buddies. I love the roughness and durability to them with their go anywhere attitude so i have decided to sell my pickup and a guy want to trade me his cj5. I was looking for some advice on what to look for, problem areas to be aware of and general knowledge on buying a jeep. The one im lookong at is a 1979 cj5 with the 3 speed i6. It has a little bit of lift with new 35 in tires and new rims, a fairly new paint job and top but not sure of mileage. He said it does have some rust but i expected that. I am a mechanic so not oblivious but just looking for some experienced jeepers help.
thanks for any help
