Looking at 03 TJ Sahara - Major Issue?

Looking to buy a 03 TJ Sahara 4.0L 5 speed. Asking $6000

Cons:
266K miles
Broken Windshield

Pros:
Drives well (good power, clutch feels strong, shifts smooth, no shimmy or shake)
Body appears excellent
New tires
New clutch
Everything works (radio, ac, gauges).

Major Issue:

The drive shaft is missing between transfer case and front end. Owner has a story, but not the drive shaft.

Questions:

Could removing the drive shaft be an attempt to hide either TC or front end issues?
Would it drive fine if the TC or front end is trashed ?
Is it still worth the price if the TC has to be swapped or rebuilt?
Anything specific issues with this model I need to verify?

Thanks

First question, can you do your own work? If you can then you can fix most things, swapping a transfer case isn't really tough. But could be something going on in the front axle instead of the transfer case. Or could be a problem with them both.

If you are paying someone to do the repair then you are probably better off to just walk away. Things get expensive in a hurry when you start paying someone to do work.

How does this jeep compare overall to comparable jeeps in your area?

Prices for jeeps vary so much in different parts of the country it's a little hard to say what this one is worth.

As @bdavid500 said can you do your own work? If not walk away, 266k is a lot of miles regardless of how bullet proof the 4.0 is its at the nickle and diming stage.
