EDIT~ and here's a whole thread of stock Jeeps doing things that would make your Amigo a really expensive paper weight.
EDIT AGAIN~ Seriously an Amigo? In my state, you have to have proof-of-vagina to drive one of those things.

Sounds to me like you were taken as a sucker. Anyone knows offroad vehicles, of any type, exposed to the elements will rust...especially if you buy one up in Yankeeland where they salt the roads. Floorboards, understanable and also extremely easily repaired with a little sheetmetal and a braising rod.
One hint, if you buy a used vehicle, look to the southwest. I have never seen a southwestern frame rust and also, you may want to have someone check out a vehicle before you buy it. If you jump on the first freshly painted ride some city slicker in a plaid suit with a gold tooth assures you was owned by his grandmother and only driven to church and back on sundays...well, as PT Barnum once put it... "There one born every minute!"
Go west young man. Go west.

You have a vehicle that you bought in '01 that you don't like and have never liked? Why do you still have it? Do just go outside and look at it and hate yourself for buying for the last 10 years? Or are you just trolling?

My little stock TJ barely made it through trails at our local ORV park that was only for heavily modified vehicles... 99 2.5l, unlocked axles, 30x9.5s, get to our level, son

Before i got my jeep i drove a 2000 chevy blazer ZR2 that had a 3" lift and 31" bfg a/t's, and i will be the first to tell you that my old blazer couldn't even dream of doing half of what my jeep can, even when it was stock. JEEPS ALL THE WAY!

when not in 4wd the xj is just a regular rwd suv. ( ok, not regular, but the baddest looking rwd suv ) Which is fairly light in the rear-end....making it less stable on slick surface conditions. Think corvette....ok maybe not, but still the idea is the same - too much torque not enough traction. So in using your logic, since my 2wd ford is heavier in the rear than the xj, it is a much more capable off-road veh.?? I think not my mis-informed friend. If the Jeep wasn't such a dependable versatile off-road vehicle, out of the box, we'd have military war pics of our soldiers in Isuzu's wouldn't we?
