How much is a bad motor TJ SE worth?

Hey all...

I'm looking to get into a Wrangler real cheap. It's a toy, so no need to be nice on the highway, etc...

I came accross this ad locally:
__________________________________________________ ____________
1997 Jeep Wrangler SE, 4 cylinder, 4-wheel drive. Absolutely love this Wrangler, it's a really fun vehicle.

160.000 miles, power steering with a new pioneer CD player and USB plug.

Brand New:
- Best Top canvas top
- Alternator
- DieHard Battery
- Converter
- Starter
Fairly New:
- 1 year old fuel pump
- 2 year old transmission
- 2 year old radiator

engine needs replaced

Not sure yet why he thinks the engine needs replacing, but assuming it does need a new motor I was thinking I could get a running replacement for $500-$600 and install it myself (have not done it before, but have friends to help who have).

How much do you think it's worth? In pictures it looks pretty clean for the year and being in Ohio... some surface rust on the front fenders, but that's it.

He's asking $2000, I was thinking more $1500 max.
Locally Swiss cheese YJs sell for $2000.

If it is all stock, 1800 to 2000 isn't a bad price. Especially for that year.
