Good deal?

I found an 1998 jeep Wrangler, 4 cylinder, 5 speed 4x4, w/ American Racing alloy rims on it. (not over sized i believe) with 115K miles on it. Its price tag is $6,666. Its in pretty good shape id say. It also has a hard top on it.

I plan on using it for crusing town and some off roading. But i dont plan on going up any steep hills of that nature, just dirt paths and puddles.

would u say this is a good buy or what?

thanks for your time.

ryan

and also this being my first post. I am 21, live in western Massachusetts, I own a Chevy Cobalt right now but looking for something more fun to drive.

.

Sounds about a grand or grand+1/2 too high based on Kelly Blue Book private party estimate for your area.
I bet you're talking about that one at Falcor - while nice, it seems high.

Now the one at Gary's in Chicopee seems nice for about the same money. Replace that chrome bumper and you get a nice red/black Jeep to buzz around in.

I picked up a '98 that sounds similar to this one for under $5K. Mine has 86,000 miles and a soft top. Needs a new radio and top but drives great.

I would agree with the previous poster it's about a grand high.

http://www.garysjeeps.com/jeeps.htm

Wow, that was scary at first. I was like "how the hell do they know where I was looking?" Then I realized they have web pages which i didnt even know about

But I do not see a red jeep on the gary page w/ chrome bars. I only see 2 red jeeps w/ black brush guards.

I did notice while looking for jeeps they all have pretty high mileage. Like around the 90-120K range. Is this a lot for a jeep to have? How long do they usually last for ( I know it depends on maintaince and all but I would be good for it)

And also thanks for helping me out here. I dont want to go into this not knowning what Im buying.

No problem for a Wranger to have 120k on it. Saw a '97 for sale at ~$5000 with 236k on it.

The red one I saw was

to the OP that jeep is too high in price and i would stay away from the 4cyl if i were you. Especially if you plan on wheeling it at all and/or putting bigger tires on it i would recommend that you look for a 4.0L

Well turns out that the Gary jeep does not deal with trade ins. so there fore that place is out of questions. It is back to the Falcor place with the jeep that is 6666. I'll talk to them first and see how they will deal with my trade in. I should be able to trade stright up or even get some money back in return seeing as I will be trading in an 05 chevy cobalt with leather seats, 2 dvd screens (including front screen in the dash), power door locks, new paint jobs, rims, tint windows, lowered, mp3, and all that good stuff. and with only 58K miles on her.

Ill keep u guys posted

115k and a 4 cly means you'll be rebuiding the engine inside of 20-30k, so figure $1500 if you do most of the work yourself. So I guess what I'm saying is, yes its a little high.
