First Time Buyer (I need advice)

First thanks for taking the time to help me out. I am looking into my first jeep purchase and would like to get some advice before moving forward.
The jeep I am interested in is a 1987 Wrangler with an odometer read of 178,000. It had an engine rebuild at 130,000 miles and has just had a heavy duty steering tie rod, power steering pump, valve cover gasket, alternator, starter, and battery replaced. The body and interior are in excellent condition as far as I can tell and it runs well. The seller is asking $5700 is this a fair price? Any advice/questions I should ask or things to look for. Please let me know.
Thank you guys!

Sounds pretty high to me. I've bought and sold a lot of Jeeps over the years and even with the used Jeep market being pretty hot right now I think $5700 for an '87 even with the rebuild and slight mods you mentioned is high. Maybe the demand is higher where you are but where I am that sounds more like a $4K Jeep (max).

Course $5700 is his ASKING price, people's mind can change quickly when a wad of $100s is plopped in front of them.

Thank you for the input! I have attached a link to the craigslist posting if anyone wants to take a look at this jeep and offer more input that would be great. Thanks again guys.

The Jeep market keeps going up every year where I live. That is actually a pretty good price on that particular Jeep based on prices in my area (if the jeep is in as good of condition as the pics and description state). I keep holding off and saving more $ but also keeping my eye out for a deal. Last year a deal would have been $3k-4k, this year the same Jeep is going for the 4-6k price range.

Looks good. NOW, crawl under that thing and check for rust. ANY rust. Pull up the corner of the carpets and check the tub for rust. IF there is NO rust, then throughly drive it. If it starts, stops, turns, and runs perfectly I would offer 5k for it. I wish some pictures of the engine bay were available. That can tell you a lot about the pride of ownership and the care that has been given the Jeep.

Hey guys, there is NO SUCH THING as RPMS. There is NO "S" in RPM.
A little knowledge is a dangerous thing, but not nearly as much as ignorance.
