My father had an mint 86 4x4 with a 2.8. It was absolutely gutless, got terrible mpg, and started knocking with about 80k on it. The 2.8 is junk, and you have to do quite a bit of work to swap a 4.0 in it including massaging the firewall.

IMO I would pass and find a 4.0 commanche

If I was in the market for a small 4x4 truck Id pull the trigger. It doesn't appear to be a rust bucket and 4x4 works its well worth $1500
