Buying a 1990 yj HELP

I am going to look at a yj. Its a pretty good deal from what I understand, however the gentleman says the front axle is broke and the 4x4 is locked causing the front two two wheels not to move at all. Is the axle really the case? And if i were to buy, would I just use a wench to crank it up on the flatbed?

How much!

How much you paying? A freind of mine just bought a 86 CJ-7 was told it was missing while running do to timing not set right. When he got it home and off the trailer he had me look at it had two cylinder with 0 compression. he thought it was a good deal he paid $ 2,200.00 I told him he paid to much. I just bought a 89 YJ in good mechanical condition and looks good also for $2,500.00 Drove it home. So I think I paid to much for mine but I think he over paid for his. post a picture of what your looking at? Could be a good deal. Just what I know! and thats not much. Joe100

Its got 190k on the body, 2.5l 4cyl. Has 3in lift ( he isn't very sure on this and I haven't gotten to look at it) 33's ( decent shape but need replaced with 1 year) New clutch with less than 10k miles, and a new motor with less than 50k miles. Hardly any rust at all. Nothing that needs fixed, just surface.

if you drop the front drive shaft it will probably roll if the transfer case is locked up. If it's the axle you're pretty much screwed

How much? I would expect it to be pretty cheap being a 2.5 and not drivable.

I have a complete YJ sitting in my front yard. Just has really bad frame and tub damage. He priced it at 1500 obo. I could probably come away with for 1000.

Keep looking. You can find YJs with much easier to fix mechanical issues in the $1000 range.
