Bought a YJ, but it needs an engine. Thoughts?

Greetings forum members,

I picked up a 1990 YJ from a family friend for $1,000! Sadly, the 4-cyl that came with it is about to die. I want to put a reasonable 6-cyl in it and make it my day-to-day vehicle. My questions are:

- How much should I expect to spend?
- Should I go with the I6 that was standard in the same model?
- Should I expect to change the tranny too?
- Did you get anything good for Christmas?

Many thanks for your thoughts. Happy Holidays!

To put an I6 in you would need a new computer
Transmission
And fab up new motor mounts the 4 cyl wont work

IMO there isn't anything wrong with the 4 cyl engine it has enough power to get around.

In the end its up to you but I would consider a reman 4 banger and enjoy it. If you did the work yourself you would be into it for 2500 including purchase price good luck and welcome to the forum
