Which Is The Better Tranny

Thanks to a year in Iraq I am finally ready to buy my first jeep. I have found 2 almost identical jeeps. My problem is one is a auto and the other is a manual. I plan on swapping the engine with a 351 and getting a lift to run 37” tires. It would not be a daily driver and I don’t plan on doing any extreme rock crawling but want it to be able to handle some pretty rough trails and mud with ease. I’m not the best at driving a manual but don’t want the auto if its not going to be able to handle things. Any advice on which would be better would be greatly appreciated since I would like to purchase one of the two jeeps next week.

What jeeps are they we need info to recommend something. Also plan to spend 15-20K to run those 37s. You will need numerous upgrades beyond lift, tires, and engine. Also you will need brake upgrades, steering upgrades, replace both axles, slip yoke eliminator, CV drive shaft, and a regear that the minimum. Also realize engine swaps in themselves will cost in the neighborhood of 5K on top of the 15-20K you will need to spend to get those 37s.

Since Im buying a older jeep I have a pretty big budget for the other upgrades needed, I just want to make sure I do things right the first time so I'm not in a big hurry to get it finished
