hi I have been looking to for a base model jeep unlimited for a 4 weeks now and i feel like they are all trying to rip me off. ive been to 7 dealerships in houston and they all want 3-5 thousand over msrp. i have affiliate pricing but I know i wont pay for a car at this price. i am very frustrated, i found two cars in washington at RAIRDONS JEEP IN KIRKLAND, one at 19794 vin number 1C4BJWDG5CL169630 and the other at 21974 vin 1C4BJWDG5CL142931. I called and told them i would purchase the vehicle and would pay for shipping to houston, and was told they would call me back. They Didn't call back, so i called them and they told me both cars were sold over the weekend. i was pissed, but told myself might as well just look for another deal, so I went online on another search only to find the vehicles which were "sold" over the weekend were reposted on cars.com and their website at higher prices. this is nothing short of fraudulent advertisement. I wanted some advice on what I should do next, regarding a jeep. i got pretty close to buying one tie and the dealer tacked on 1000 dollars worth of fees. I would like to be in a wrangler unlimited 4 weeks ago but it looks like i might need to look at a different car company. thanks for any advice in advance

join Tread Lightly. 1% BELOW invoice! I bought my 2012 2dr Dozer, and as soon as I mentioned the TL discount, everything else just melted away, all the crap that is the game. It costs $60 for the 3 yr membership to become eligible, but it is more than worth it. made for a very pleasant buying experience.
http://www.treadlightly.org/
FYI, after you join you will have to wait to receive your packet in the mail, and then you have the paper to work to get your control number from Chrsyler, and it (Tread lightly, not Chrysler) says that you must wait 30 days, but I had no problem, and I only waited 7 days
I t does mean that you will have to wait another couple weeks before you pull the trigger, but man it was worth it for me.
Best of luck

I am already a member of tread lightly! 1% below invoice on the base model is 24500 ish. I can get the new 2013 for 25600ish drive out. 2012 should have a little more discounts especially with the year ending. i may be allitle early for that but I cant stand the games. i qualify for the college rebate too for 500. But it seems everyone outside of a 500 mile radius of me is selling base model unlimiteds for 22300-23000. with shipping here i will still save thousands. I even got pp pricing for the base models here in houston and the lowest even with pp was 26000 before ttl. I cant stand how they do bussiness. I cant be the only one that feels this way. I just left a dealership 30 mins ago, and I showed them a 3000 dollar lower price on a same option vehicle, after they said that it was the lowest they can go with pp. there is no reason IN the US that a consumer should pay 3000 dollars more for the a car some one 1000 miles away can get for 3000 lower. dont make any sense. and they will sit there for hours trying to justify the price difference. the houston market sucks. just super frustrating. at least this guy wasn't a condesending A**hole like the last seven dealers ive been too. I know this is the car game, but damn! I have the money in hand, stop dicking around and sell me a car already. sorry for venting guys, but there should be no reason that i need to pay 3000 dollars more for something just cause i live in houston.

to start, how do you know that those jeeps aren't actually sold? it takes days for the different computer systems to catch up with our database to remove sold units from the third party websites. short of actually driving there, you don't know you're being lied to. 4 door wranglers are hot right now (HOT!), and they are not required to honor the tread lightly discount.
second, the jeeps that you're finding with online pricing could be the bogus ones, not the ones that you're looking at in person. around here (not us, because we don't play this game), several dealers will include several thousand dollars worth of rebates that the average joe doesn't qualify for, and then remove freight from their pricing to make it look even lower. their "internet price" is completely justifiable, if totally false at the same time, but it's only job is to get people in the door. that's it. once you're there, they sell you on the value of the car, and put you through an interview to see if you qualify for the rebates (most don't) so they can justify raising the price back up. not saying this is the case here, but it's a possibility you should consider before making enemies who have the car you want.
lastly, there are no rebates on the 2012 wranglers, so your pricing would be almost identical on the 2013 models, save for the quarterly price increase (a few hundred at most). why not find a dealer willing to honor the PP price and just tell them you want to order? some dealers might even say "well, can i sell you a 2012 at that price?" you might get lucky.
let me know if you need help pulling invoices or finding out what the true PP price is.

I know that they lied to me about the car because after being told that they were sold last week, they were REPOSTED at higher prices. I understand if they were on the website at the same price, but it has been over a week and they are still on both sites at 1000 dollars more. I even called to confirm if they were still on the lot and the guy told me he would call me back after he checked... this was last week no call.
The point you make about the internet sales being justifiable, although I don't agree with the tactic, it is something I understand. However, what I am referring to when I say not justifiable is the 2000-3000 above msrp that the dealers i visited were trying to sell them at. Im not trying to attack all car salesmen, I understand the game and I actually have friends that are salesmen, i just don't agree with it. I left a dealership last night and was looking at a car, test drove it and everything. Salesman had the stock number and internet price, but when the finance manager came to negotiate, he came with a price that was 7000 dollars more than the advertised price. He kept going with it until I pointed it out, then he dropped the 7000 off the price.
I think that I will just buy out of state and pay shipping. Sorry you guys had to read all of my *****ing. and thanks again for the advice
