2000 XJ 4x4, price check?

I'm new to the site, been looking in a Jeep for a family vehicle. I found this XJ that looks great with low mileage, but I'm unsure if it's the price is a bit high & what I should offer. I know, I know....a vehicle is only worth what I'm willing to spend, but as an average what do you guys think here.

It only has 148k miles, looks to be in great condition & almost seems it's price a little high @ $5,500 according to KBB.

Second is a 1989 XJ sitting at 365k miles, owner say's the previous owner used it behind their camper & never detached the axle shaft so the miles added up while being towed. Also, he said he changed to A/C system over to 134A. Price is nice @ $1,800.

So between the two, which would you go with? I'd like the 4 door version since I have a family, but right now the price seems real nice with the 2-door to free up funds for armor & frame stiffening for quicker mods. Although I do like the OBDII system, low miles & steel rear hatch in the 2000 XJ.

This truck would be driving for as possible. If anything, I'd upgrade the axles & engine later on for an expedition style 4x4 for camping/hunting.

* Can't seem to post links just yet to show the XJ's I'm talking about.....

I'm not an XJ expert but my brother bought a used 4 door XJ with 150k miles for $2,500 in the Chicago area. I think you're paying too much for that 148k and there is no way to confirm that he had it towed the whole time. The other one has way too many miles. I would continue looking and don't be afraid to look in other cities so you can get an idea of what the average price is. Good luck!

I've been thinking the same thing.... It seems the XJ's here in the Southeast in the major cities are going up in price due to the Wranglers rising in value. I've decided to hold off and possibly look elsewhere or choose another model all together. Halfway tempted to just save up some more and buy an F250 Super Duty 4x4, this way I'll have a pick up bed.....or just wait till Jeep comes out with their pickup and put down money on a new vehicle when it arrives. I like smaller trucks & I'd prefer a solid front axle so it might be what I've been waiting for. Hell even the Comanche's here are going way up in price. For a cheap pickup they are insanely high...like 7k high for a stock truck.
