99: (pros)

HP axles
Probably get an Chryco 8.25 (what do 00-01 have?)
No head problems
supposed best of the 97+ jeeps

99: (cons)

Its a year older
more likely to have more problems (like the little nickel and dimers)
mine came w/ fugly rims

00: (pros)

Distributorless ignition
Newer
probably has ABS (could be bad too if you wheel alot)
All around newer everything

00: (cons)

LP axles (HP is better)
Cracking heads

Thats all i can think of now. Id look for skids, check the exhaust (specifically the cat for rattling), rust, hitch, fogs, etc.

not always true, a lot of it depends on how many miles, how well it was maintained, along with who drove it previously.

If you live on the front range in CO, expect prices for jeeps (TJ/YJ/XJ, etc) to be almost $2K over what you could get them in other states. It's a Colorado thing I guess. Luckily I found an as-is '97 XJ with a bad cat for $2K as is (dealer too!) and just had to trailer it home.
