1998 TJ... Worth the asking price?

Hey guys,

I've been wanting to get my first jeep for a while now and came across this little guy for $8,000.

From the ad:

"For Sale: 1998 Jeep, Skyjacker lift, 6cyl. 5spd., 100k miles, D44, soft top and hard top, 33" tires, no rust anywhere."

Its about 2 hours away from me... So I wanted to get some input before I made the drive to go look at it.

Thanks in advance!

Edit: Not really a fan of the fake Rubicon decal or the chrome wheels... so those would be the first things to go if I bought it. Haha.

Sounds high to me.
Rubicons were not made in 1998, I would be interested in knowing if it really had a D44, also.

I hope he didn't tell you that's a Rubicon. All I can say is make sure it truly has a D44. Not to sure on the price, someone else might be able to chime in on that one.

I was too slow.

Sounds a little high, but not to bad I would try to work the seller down a bit.

I wouldnt drive two hours to look at this. I looked at a lot of jeeps before getting my TJ and Id have to say most of them were not worth the 40-55min drive. 8k seems high and the fact that its lifted with the fake stickers maker me nervous for a trip that far. If he can send you pictures of the rear diff to show you its a 44 and your desperate take the drive but im willing to bet there are better jeeps close to you...

I'm curious as to where you guys look for your Jeeps. That one really seemed to be a decent deal to me here in PA. I guess you guys don't see it as so, so I'm glad I asked about it on here. Haha.

I look on craigslist, autotrader, and ebaymotors... Are there any other big places to look that I'm missing?

Thanks a lot!

Instead of making a new thread, I'll just add to this one...

I'm still looking for a jeep, and came across this for $8500. Its been for sale for quite a while now, and I'm thinking I could get it for maybe 7900 or so without the 3 month warranty.

It's a 2000 and has 99,000 miles on it. Body wise, it looks to be in nice shape...

Good deal?

If it's been for sale a while, offer 6 grand and go from there.

The technical advice you get from me here is worth exactly what you paid me for it. Warranty issues will be reimbursed at double what you paid me for the advice.
