Wish I didn't have to make this thread

I got rear ended today
A girl hit me doing about 30 miles an hour,
her car got trashed pretty bad.
My powder coat got a little scratched and my bumper got bent inwards a bit.
she is ok
and for the most part so am I. I have really bad whiplash and my knee is killing me (I had ACL reconstructive surgery a few months ago).
She was an uninsured driver in a friends car. So I really am getting screwed and am scared to take my jeep to a mechanic because I really can't afford to right now, and my insurance would double if I reported this (at least I think)

on to the good part:

on her hood you can see the marks left by the tire shine on my spare

you can see the hitch got pushed back into the cross member a bit

here you can see the powder coat chips on the d ring mounts and the hitch

all in all Jeep 1-Nissan 0

It sucks that you were rearended, but it's good that the jeep came out on top.

I'd still contact my insurance company and tell them what happened and explore your options. If the uninsured driver was at fault they still may have a way to pay for any possible damages...to the jeep or you. Not worth risking not reporting it...just think if something inside you is out of whack and you don't report it.

You can discuss it with your insurance without it going against you, then make an informed decision.

I just talked to my mom and I am going to talk to my insurance agent to explore my options.
Besides the obvious things like the bent bumper is there anything else I should look for?

Always always talk to them. You would be worse off if you didnt talk to them. They rear ended you so its their fault.

I'd check the bumper mounting points on the frame.

Was the driver not insured or the vehicle not insured or both? If one or the other had insurance, there is a chance you might be able to recover your losses. I would claim it. Most legitimate insurance companies would look at this being 100% not your fault, and would simply pursue the driver/owner of the vehicle that hit you and shouldn't raise your rates...

FYI, I work for an insurance company.

from the pics it doesn't seem worth getting fixed, If the car is insured you may have a chance there, I'm not an insurance agnt but you should talk to yours about it

My rear bumpers 5 and 0. none of them drove away either. My bumper never bent, however the crossmember got bent a little bit by the last car that hit me.

The rear bumper is bent a little bit...the top part of the hitch is closer to the cross member than the bottom (hard to see in the pictures but for the most part its fine)

Sorry as well...

I know that I have an added policy just for uninsured motorist. I believe it's required in my state? Sucks having to have insurance for those that don't have it. I heard in my state that 1 out of 3 drivers is not insured.

You need to have the jeep checked out. The Nissan went under your Jeep, could have messed with the gas tank, exhaust or anything under there.

The "freinds" car should be insured. most states i know of its illegal to drive a car with having insurance on the car. I dont know what the laws are there. But here you get busted for not having insurance you lose you liscense and if you are in an accedint you are still liable to pay for the damages. something look at......

In Michigan we pay an additional $120 yearly to cover those drivers without insurance. We also have a no-fault policy here, which states that no one is to blame for the accident at the scene, the insurance companies look at police reports and determine which party was at fault, and take action accordingly.
