Sad day

Had to say good bye to my beloved Jeep. Even ARB equipped Rubicons don't fare well when large commercial vehicles don't look both ways before entering intersections.

However, I can vouch firsthand for ARB's claim that the airbags will still deploy.

Now I have to go Jeep shopping, but I have no idea what to get...I had NO intentions of replacing this.

And if you really don't want to salvage it, can I have the axles?

If you have the opportunity to buy it back from the insurance co. for cheap, do it.

He's right, you can always do a frame swap.

Glockgirl26 02-28-2013 02:09 PM

The salvage company wanted well over $4K to buy it back. For the amount of work it needed and cost to rebuild, we decided it wasn't worth it.

Took the money (and the winch) and ran. Going to look at a '13 Rubicon tonight.

:crying: Why?!? TJ's are way cooler! (I am biased) was there any frame damage?

Glockgirl26 03-01-2013 07:06 AM

The frame was pretty jacked...the front end was sitting about 8 inches to the right of the rear end. The engine and front suspension had heavy damage, I don't remember for sure if the axle itself was damaged.

I know, I was pretty partial to the TJ too...took me almost a year to find that one back in '08.:(

Ah geez... yeah thats bad.. But not impossible to repair. I'd buy it for 4k (If I had that money lying around) and take parts off my sahara to fix it lol.

Well Good luck with your Jeep hunting! I'm sorry that this happened in the first place, poor jeep :( .

No, it wouldn't have been impossible, and we did consider it. A lot more involved logistically too, like where to keep it, who is going to do the work and when, etc. :( Plus I have a 40 mile commute, live in a very rural location, and need something reliable to drive that's also good in bad weather in the meantime.

Bought me a pretty red '13 Rubicon last night.

My 98' TJ has never left me on the side of the road, but I baby it lol.

So did you get the 2 door?

Glockgirl26 03-01-2013 01:57 PM

Yep...I don't really need a four door vehicle.

My TJ was super reliable too, but it wasn't very old when I bought it and I take good care of my stuff. I was more hesitant to look for another TJ because of not knowing where it'd been or who it'd been with for so much longer.

:teehee:

Sorry about your loss! I have a 2012 two door Rubicon and I love it!
