Defective Superior D44 Axle

Heard mostly good about Superior so this isn't intended to be a bashing thread just looking for opinions on this break. This axle had 40 miles of wifey driving time on it is all. She drove it to her girlfriends house all paved city roads. While backing out of the driveway she heard a clunk and thought she might have ranover a bicycle or something. So she got out and didn't find anything and got back in to head home. The Jeep wouldn't move at all in forward/reverse or FWD (hubs weren't locked in) When I got there I checked the tranny fluid and then the linkage. While checking the linkage I noticed the rear wheel tilted in slightly. Broken axle! I locked the hubs in, put it in 4WD and parked it. Here's what I found.

There certainly looks like something was with that axle shaft. Have you contacted Superior yet?

that is a defective part, contact superior with these pics. you can see, maybe only 1/4 of the actual material was there and holding asn is a clean break. the other looks like maybe some sort of air was trapped or an area of weaker material trapped there.

Quadratec and Superior Axle have been excellant to deal with with this problem. They're sending me replacements with bearings and wheel studs already pressed in on a Redeye flight to me. They've never seen a break like this and want to examine it to determine the problem.

Guys it was a joke! I was just trying to express how extreme of a break that was. Sorry for offending. I would never do that!

Wow. Think if that would have let go on the highway.

Glad it didn't or you'd have one messed up wife.

So what's up with the ground down heads on the wheel studs? Did you have to do that or did they come like that?

The wheel studs that came with the Superior axles were narrow head wheel studs but weren't long enough for my wheels. I had to grind about an 1/8th off the studs that I added to the axles so they wouldn't hit the parking brake assembly. I just went slow and moved from bolt to bolt so as not to heat stress the bolt. The new Superior axles came with pressed studs that were plenty long.

Well I didn't know it was a joke. It caused me mental anguish and I also can't have relations with my wife.

YOU WILL BE HEARING FROM MY ATTORNEY!
