Cañon City Colorado

I took the Royal Gorge Route Railroad train from Cañon City.

This mess was alongside the tracks.

The conductor said a Darwin Award candidate at the top of the gorge left his truck to enjoy the scenery.
His parking brake let go and it dove over the side.
Luckily nobody was in it.
The top of the gorge is about 1,050 feet up.

Look closely and you can make out the bed and rear bumper of a truck.

The funny thing is the fall didn't cause all of that damage! It was the sudden stop that did it.

I spent many days of my childhood in Canon City, where my grandparents lived and are now buried.

I like it.

oh hell, I just love Colorado.

The truth to the story is he was trying to teach my dog to drive and the results are above. Much later I tried to teach him and the results were similar with much less damage. Some day he will learn to drive, i just need someone to volunteer to let him use their vehicle.

Anyone?

haha.

The pic reminds of some stuff here in Nevada I've seen over the my time here. some cars left like that on purpose to scam insurance, others the results of avalanches, general idiocy, etc depositing the cars in canyons.

you see some interesting old vehicles.

We have a place here cald Bald Rock. There is about 40 cars from the 50's to the 90's when they blocked it off. Most had less than a couple hundred miles since they were drive offs from car lots. Includes a CJ-7, 2 Grand Wagoneers, and a Cherokee Chief (FSJ).
