2.5L Block Blown Open

Ever wonder what happens when you're peacefully going down the road at a steady speed and suddenly a sonic boom erupts from under the hood and then flames jet from the fender as oil ignites on the exhaust?

Here is my buddy's 2.5L from his 1995 YJ after a not-so-fun afternoon. This picture is after he got the block pulled.

Judging by the looks of that rod journal I wouldn't use the words "peacefully going down the road", well at least for the engine that is.

That exhaust manifold has a strange colored tint inside too, I would expect a sooty black color, I have seen similar looking colors from engines with blown head gaskets or burning coolant.

Yeah it ain't pretty in any aspect, wouldn't have expected to see that vomit color since his motor felt fine driving before the incident.

/End Transmission
